Eco-Friendly Practices

We are a small, woman-owned and run business operating out of a solar-powered facility in Southern Oregon. We also double as a used packaging drop-off site for local residents and businesses. Our products are packaged in 100% post-consumer recycled packaging, home compostable pouches and recyclable glass and aluminum bottles.

We give back by donating to "One Tree Planted" and "Rogue Climate" every month and continue to donate to various humanitarian and environmental causes throughout the year.

Generally, all orders are shipped using zero-waste packaging and materials. Our shipping department uses paper stuffing and biodegradable paper tape, with the exception of shipping glass, as noted in the product descriptions for products made of glass.

Shipping Policies and Information

We offer free standard shipping on orders above $150 for U.S. customers. If you qualify for free shipping, we will not honor requests for Priority or Expedited shipping unless a request is submitted through email and additional postage is paid. If you need expedited shipping, email us.

Our shipping room runs Monday through Friday, and is closed on federal holidays. With the exception of orders placed on Friday and Saturday, we typically pack and ship orders within 24 hours. During peak/high volume periods it may take us 1-3 days to pack and ship an order.

If you email us over the weekend with a shipping need, we will respond to you on Monday morning, Pacific time. The best way to reach us is by filling out our contact form on this website.

Please double check your shipping address. We are not responsible for issues caused by incorrect addresses.

Shipping rates and available services are calculated at checkout based on your order’s weight and destination. Delivery estimates are estimates provided by the carrier and are not guaranteed. You are always welcome to email us if you need extra help with shipping or delivery.

How We Handle Shipping Issues

Once an order leaves our facility, delivery is handled by the selected shipping carrier. Any delivery issues must be addressed directly with the carrier, as they are responsible for transporting the package to its destination. For USPS shipments, we’ve found that contacting your local post office is often the most effective first step.

You may track your shipment or submit a missing mail claim through the carrier used for your order—either the U.S. Postal Service or UPS.

While we make every effort to process and ship orders promptly, we are not able to retrieve or locate packages once they are in transit. In the event of a delay or loss, we ask for your patience while the carrier completes its investigation. Replacement items or refunds can only be issued after the carrier has made a formal determination.

After an order leaves our facility, responsibility transfers to the carrier, but we’re glad to offer support and direction should any delivery issues occur.

If your order arrives damaged, please contact us within 10 days of delivery. Include your order number and photos of the damaged product and packaging.

If an order is marked “delivered” by the carrier but you have not received it, please let us know, but do note that we will insist you make every effort to find the package on your end, including checking with neighbors and waiting at least 2 more days for delivery. If the package does not show up, we will assist you in starting a trace with the carrier or make another determination about how to handle the issue.

Return Policies

We offer full refunds on any defective or damaged products. We also offer full refunds (less shipping costs) on elective returns if the product is in re-sellable condition (including the packaging) and the return has been made within 3 months of the purchase.

Please send all returns to us at:

International Shipping

If you’re ordering from Europe, Canada, Australia or New Zealand, please click the appropriate link to visit the international website for your region - these are operated by third parties but all products were made in the USA . We normally ship with either FedEx or UPS for international orders, and the order typically takes 2-3 weeks for delivery. Due to global constraints, shipping times may vary, and additional delays can occur due to customs inspections. Since we never know if a package will be held at customs, any import fees or taxes applied to the delivery must be paid by the recipient.

PRODUCT FAQs

Does it yellow over time?
We sell walnut oil because it is less yellowing than linseed oil although there will be slight yellowing over time.

When mixing your own oil paint, many people choose to use Liquid Gold Hempseed Oil with the white pigments only (instead of walnut or linseed oil), so that the white paint will never yellow.

A common cause of yellowing is called "dark yellowing" and happens when pieces are stored in the dark for too long. The good news, though, is that placing the art piece back in direct sunlight will reverse the yellowing. This reversal takes anywhere from 1-7 days.

How long does it take to dry?
Walnut oil dries slowly and can dry to the touch between 4-14 days depending on the humidity of your area, the type of pigment used and how thickly it was applied.

Is it refined?
Yes. It is pure, expeller pressed walnut oil, so no other chemical or oils are introduced in manufacturing or bottling (when it is refined it is naturally "bleached" with clay which is just a natural filtering for color and clarity and there should be no allergen potential because it is refined). No hexane or solvents are used at all.

How does it compare to linseed oil?
You can use linseed oil interchangeably. We use walnut oil because it's higher quality and is less yellowing over time. But linseed oil dries faster which some people prefer.

How does it compare to poppyseed oil?
Historically, some painters mixed their white pigment with poppyseed oil instead of walnut or linseed because it never yellows and is the clearest of all oils.

How does it compare to sunflower oil?
Sunflower oil can be used but it dries much slower than walnut oil (which already dries pretty slow) and some sources say that it may discolor your painting or yellow over time.

Is it flammable?
All natural oils are potentially flammable if left on a rag in a hot area. It's suggested that you store oil soaked rags in a metal bucket with a lid and submerge in water if you're not disposing of them right away. Artists have many techniques of safely storing or disposing of their soiled rags - you'll find a lot of tips on google and artist forums.

Can it be used for a wood stain?
Most woodworkers who are staining outside wood furniture just mix our natural pigments with walnut oil and brush it on and then wipe with a dry rag. If you want the paint more opaque just add more pigment or don't wipe with the rag. It will bond well with the wood. It will completely compost and biodegrade because it's just earth and oil. Here's a tutorial with other natural wood staining recipes as well. We also sell a Natural Wood Stain & Varnish Set.

What about clean-up?
Large amounts of oil or oil paint should be disposed of according to your city’s local ordinances.

To wash oil paint from your hands and body:

Option 1: Use Pinerite Natural Hand Cleaner.

Option 2: Rub a small amount of oil into the paint on your skin, then wipe off with a rag and wash with soap and water.

To clean brushes:

Option 1: Pour a small amount of Eco-Solve* into a glass jar (just enough to cover the brush bristles if you dunk your brush), then swirl your brush until the majority of paint comes off. Finish washing brushes with soap and water.

Option 2: Simply use pure oil, like walnut, to thin your paint and clean your brushes

Option 3: Use Murphy’s Oil Soap from any hardware store.

*You can re-use Eco-solve nearly indefinitely just like regular solvent. After cleaning your brushes, let it sit in a covered glass jar for a few days to a week and then the paint sediment will settle to the bottom. You can carefully pour the "clean" eco-solve that is on top into another container, then the paint sludge left in the jar can be wiped out and disposed of in the trash or washed down the drain if the paint is non-toxic and safe for waterways.
